Event - 2nd Charity Event at Piano Workshop! Two charity music concerts were held last week at The Piano Workshop in Reigate on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st May, hosted by BBC's Nick Owen, to raise money in aid of The Orpheus Centre and St Catherine's Hospice. Both evenings were a great success, raising over £1,000 to help each charity continue on with their work.
Thursday night's entertainment was provided by accomplished pianist Tracy Kennington and her daughter, Clare Kennington, violinist and previous NADFAS Musician of the Year and all proceeds were donated to The Orpheus Centre. This local charity dedicated to helping young disabled adults gain the skills needed to live independently, makes a real impact on peoples' lives by providing its students with a learning environment that aims to help them achieve their ambitions through the performing arts.
On Friday evening the relaxed and friendly atmosphere continued, as the musical entertainment was provided by distinguished pianist Yuki Negishi and freelance soloist and orchestral musician Julie Groves on the flute. All proceeds were donated to St Catherine's Hospice, a charity dedicated to providing, free of charge, specialised end of life care to people, their families, friends and carers. The hospice primarily relies on voluntary donations from the public for their funding, and is a cause The Piano Workshop is happy to help. The evening began with a talk from Victoria Lawrence the hospice's fundraiser, and ended with a raffle, with first prize generously donated by the Nutfield Priory Hotel.
The Piano Workshop, owned by Derek Love, is a local business specialising in restoration and selling pianos. Founded in 1983, it has successfully grown and expanded to its present location in Albert Road North, Reigate. It intends to make these enjoyable concert evenings an annual charitable event.
